The Haines Highway runs from Haines, Alaska, through British Columbia, to Haines Junction,
Yukon Territory. It starts at sea level and climbs to 2,300 ft, going from Lynn Canal, along the Chilkat River, passing
through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, past the Tlingit village of Klukwan, then moves up the Klehini River, past Dalton
Cache (USA) and Pleasent Camp (CA) border stations. At this point the highway begins to climb in elevation and is the starting
point for the famous Alcan 200 snowmachine race. After a steep climb through Rainy Hallow the highway beings to level out
at Three Guardsman Lake, preceeding to the Summit.
